Format: Printed cookbook for families

For a primary school in Cologne-Mülheim, I developed a cookbook that introduces children and families to simple, healthy and affordable meals.

Initiated by the association Wir-im-Nordquartier e.V. and supported by the Health Department of the City of Cologne, the project aimed to create a practical everyday resource that encourages cooking together while addressing themes such as affordability and community.

The design needed to be playful and visually engaging for children, while remaining clear and practical for parents.

Special Features &

Challenges

  • Print instead of digital

The focus was on a printed booklet with high readability, tactile quality and a clear structure.

  • Child-friendly design

The layout needed to be playful and visually accessible without losing clarity.

  • Integration of different voices

Texts from school leadership, project partners and supporting institutions were integrated into the concept.

  • Social dimension

Recipes were intentionally designed to use affordable and easily accessible ingredients.

  • Time constraints

Production had to be completed in time for the planned Christmas market presentation.

  • Interviews and conversations with teachers, students and project partners to define the content

  • Development of a colorful and easy-to-understand layout system

  • Integration of illustration elements and clear typography to support readability

  • Coordination with the printing house and preparation for production

  • Organization of printing and distribution for the public presentation event

The project was implemented as a full-service design process: from initial concept to final distribution.

It combines social relevance with engaging graphic design and demonstrates how creative design projects can contribute to improving everyday life in a local community.

Outcome

Learnings

This project was particularly meaningful to me because it had a direct impact in my own neighborhood of Cologne-Mülheim.

It demonstrated how enriching local and tangible design projects can be and how design can help improve concrete living conditions.

At the same time, the project strengthened my ability to independently manage complete projects: from concept development to final delivery.
