AskHelen
UX Concept for Curated Beauty & Self-Care Knowledge
AskHelen is a UX concept for a mobile platform that makes beauty and self-care knowledge structured and accessible.
The app brings routines, expert advice and inspiration together in one place, helping users navigate an increasingly fragmented information landscape.
The goal was to design an intuitive and trustworthy environment that supports users in their everyday self-care practices.

Concept
AskHelen was developed as part of my UX design graduation project with the goal of creating orientation in the highly fragmented beauty and self-care market.
The industry continues to grow rapidly, yet users are confronted with a wide range of often contradictory information: from social media trends to expert recommendations. Many are searching for reliable sources and clearly structured routines.
AskHelen responds to this need with a platform that bundles, curates and personalizes content in one place. Instead of overwhelming information streams, the app offers a clear structure that helps users quickly find relevant content and integrate it into their everyday routines.

The development began with a research phase to better understand user needs and everyday usage contexts.
User Research
Interviews and personas revealed key pain points: information overload, limited trust in sources, and the high cost of many products and services.
Contextual Inquiries
Observations of everyday routines showed when and where users engage with beauty and self-care content, for example in the morning in the bathroom, in the evening on the sofa, or while commuting. These insights shaped the app’s navigation and information structure.
Design Language
A warm color palette, reduced illustrations and a friendly tone positioned AskHelen as a supportive companion rather than an authoritative expert platform.
Iterations & Testing
From early wireframes to interactive prototypes, the concept evolved through multiple feedback loops and testing sessions.

The entire UX process was developed independently and supported by mentor feedback. The work included:
Development of the information architecture
Creation of wireframes and navigation structures
Prototyping in different fidelity stages
Iterative user testing and refinements
Establishing a consistent design language as a foundation for scalability
The focus was on translating complex information into a clear and intuitive user experience.

The final concept presents a mobile platform that structures beauty and self-care knowledge and makes it accessible in a personalized way.
Through curated content, clear navigation and a calm visual language, the app creates a user experience that offers orientation and builds trust.
AskHelen supports users in different everyday situations, both as a quick source of inspiration and as practical guidance for personal routines.
Outcome
Learnings
This project highlighted the importance of iteration in the UX process.
What designers may initially assume to be intuitive only becomes reliable through testing. In particular, contextual inquiries showed how strongly everyday situations, environments and moods influence user behavior.
AskHelen demonstrates that effective UX design is not only about visual clarity, but also about understanding the real-life context of its users.
