JobSwop.io

UX design for a job exchange platform

JobSwop.io brings movement to the labor market: a platform on which employees can easily swap jobs, similar to apartments.

As the responsible UX designer, I developed navigation, prototypes and user tests, always with an eye on user-friendliness and the legal framework.

Concept

JobSwop.io is an innovative start-up from Chemnitz that has developed a digital platform for job swaps, similar to home exchange platforms. The basic idea: many people are basically satisfied in their job, but would be willing to change if, for example, the commute to work were shorter, the pay were better or the job profile were more suitable. The platform should make this hidden market visible and bring employees and employers together.

As the only UX designer in the project, I was responsible for the entire design concept: from the first wireframes to the mobile and web implementation and support for the implementation by the in-house programmer. I worked with a commercially oriented startup that had defined clear goals and KPIs for their processes. Design milestones had to be achieved within tight deadlines and were always delivered on time.

VP Prototype iteration, sample job swap

The project was particularly exciting because it combined classic labor law and economic issues with an innovative digital concept. On the UX side, this meant

  • Design of a clear, trustworthy user interface that conveys security.

  • Development of mechanisms to involve employers so that job swaps are not only initiated by employees.

  • Working with an existing corporate identity, whose specifications I have consistently implemented and meaningfully expanded.

  • Balance between own intuitive design approach (e.g. navigation, user flow) and existing privacy and brand guidelines.

Challenges

Special features &

  • Wireframes & prototypes for desktop, tablet and mobile to ensure a consistent user experience.

  • Usability tests with a pool of beta testers who were already active on the platform.

  • Close collaboration with the development team in order to be able to implement iterations quickly.

  • Several design iterations, incorporating both user feedback and industry-specific requirements (HR & labor law).

Result

The result was a clear, modern interface for web, tablet and mobile, which still serves as the basis of the active platform today. Particular emphasis was placed on clarity, intuitive navigation and a responsive design, especially in the blog and community area. Screens such as the homepage, job lists and matching overviews illustrate the final product.

Learnings

& Impact

This project showed me how important it is to maintain balance between UX design and the business-driven context where KPIs, deadlines and existing corporate identities are equally important. For me, it was a valuable experience of how UX design can act as a bridge between innovative ideas and traditional business structures.

At the same time, I learned how to effectively incorporate my own design signature into an existing framework while upholding the brand's common thread.
