Elementary school
Langenmaß
Healthy & affordable cooking with children
A local project with an impact: I designed a colorful recipe book for the Langenmaß elementary school in Cologne-Mülheim that collects simple, inexpensive dishes for children and families.
From design to printing to delivery, I took care of the full service - just in time for the Christmas market.
I designed a recipe book for an elementary school in Cologne-Mülheim that introduces children and families to simple, inexpensive and healthy dishes. Initiated by Wir-im-Nordquartier e.V. and funded by the health office of the city of Cologne, the aim was to create a local product suitable for everyday use that conveys the joy of cooking and takes social aspects such as affordability into account.
Concept
Double page foreword: Wir-im-Nordquartier e.V. & Cologne Health Department
Design of a print product (booklet format) instead of a digital solution with a focus on haptics and reader-friendliness
Balance between child-friendly design and functional structure for adults
Integration of intro texts from the school principal and funding institutions
Social dimension: recipes with easily accessible ingredients and a small budget
Tight schedule: completion and delivery in time for the Christmas market
Challenges
Special features &
Discussions with teachers, pupils and the association to prepare the content
Layout design: colorful, clear, with illustrations and clear typography
Selection and communication with the print shop: print preparation, proofing, production support
Organization of printing & delivery - on time for the planned Christmas market event
Full-service processing: from the idea to final distribution
Process
Double page lettuce recipe
Result
A colorful, easy-to-understand recipe book that appeals to children and families alike. It combines social relevance with appealing graphic design and shows how design can make a concrete contribution to the quality of life of a local community.
Learnings
The project was close to my heart because it takes place in my own neighborhood of Cologne-Mülheim. With this assignment, I was able to contribute directly to strengthening conscious living in my area. It showed me how enriching local and tactile projects can be. It opened up new perspectives in the field of print design and at the same time confirmed my belief that design should not be seen as an end in itself, but as a tool that can improve concrete realities of life.
It also underscored my ability to manage entire processes independently: from concept to final delivery.
